Hello everyone!
This is China team from SAYUL Korea Club.
This month, our team have discussed about COP26 of China and we would like to
share what we have learnt.
Q. What is COP26?
'COP' stands for 'Conference of the Parties'. It is a meeting of the parties
discussing specific implementation plans of the Climate Change Convention. COP26
was held from October 31st, 2021 to November 13th, 2021 in UK Glasgow. As a
result, 'Glasgow Climate Pact' was concluded.
Q. What were the results of China?
1) New Greenhouse Gas reduction plan before COP26 : It declared to lower carbon
dioxide emissions and increase the proportion of non-fossil fuels.
2) Joint declaration between US and China : Both countries acknowledged the
seriousness of the climate crisis and decided to cooperate for climate change
reduction.
3) The declaration on forest and land use : China decided to participate in a
declaration that stops deforestation and strive to restore soil by 2030.
4) Switching to eco-friendly cars : China announced plans to supply more than
50% of hybrid and electric vehicles.
Q. What will China do afterward?
1) Reinforcement of the Environmental Protection Act
2) Eco-Friendly campaign
3) Announcement of action plan to achieve carbon peak in 2030
Q. Our (China Team) Opinion
We should consider that China started at a different starting line from developed
countries. However, since the mid-2000s, China has emerged as the second-largest
global economy and an emerging powerhouse equivalent to the G2. Therefore,
China needs to take responsibility in climate change.

We have found out that China is taking action to prevent climate change. It might
take long time, but we do believe that its results will be clearly shown one day.
