<ALL ABOUT THE PART-TIME JOB>

Hello, everyone! We are Anam Team 1.

Our first posting topic is   <All about the part-time job>

Enjoy! And I hope it would be helpful

(It is a little bit long but it will be funny!)

Emma :

Hey Juana! I’m tired of being in quarantine so, I’m thinking about getting a part-time job. (Q1) Do you know how can I get a part-time job?

Juana :

Of course, I know! But there are couple of requirements that you must meet.

Emma : Really? Um.... (Q1-1) What do I need?

Juana :

First, you need to have either visa of study abroad (D-2) or language training (Korean language training D-4-1, foreign language training D-4-7), which has been confirmed by your school’s department of international students.

What kind of visa were you issued when you came to Korea?

Emma :

I was issued D-2 visa which allows me to enroll and graduate in Korea.

Juana :

Okay. You are good with your visa. Now your attendance and an average grade of the previous semester must be over 70% and C each.

No doubt that you meet these two requirements, right?

Emma :

Of course, I do. I have been studying very hard.

(Q1-2) By the way, my friend was issued D-4-1 visa. Does she need to meet the same requirements as me?

Juana :

Nope! Unlike D-2 visa, her overall semester attendance must be over 90%!

Emma : Ooops.. Then she won’t be able to get a part-time job.

Juana :

Too bad for her but it is what it is.

Along with that, except for high school students who are about to graduate, elementary, middle, and high school students and students who are permitted to stay due to not meeting their graduation requirements are not allowed to get a part-time job.

If you know any of these kinds of students, please notify them.

Emma :

Okay. And during the break, (Q1-3) I wish to work every day to make money. Would this be possible?

Juana :

That depends on type of your school and level of Korean. Check this chart out!

Emma :

Wow! It's worth studying Korean hard! I'm a sophomore now, and I have TOPIK level 3, so I can work long on weekends and vacations!!

Juana :

Oh!! I think you can make a lot of money. What are you going to do?

Emma :

I'm Canadian, so I want to teach English as a tutor!

Juana :

I'm sorry, but it's impossible to work as a tutor.

(Q1-4) Besides, you can’t work in construction, high-tech industries and research institutes, gambling places and bars or entertainment as receptionists.

And also you can't work in manufacturing because you don't have TOPIK or KIIP level 4 yet... Lastly, the place to work should be within an hour of your house!

Emma :

Oh, it's very complex...

Juana :

Right... But if you don't follow these and work part-time without permission from the Minister of Justice, you can be forced out of Korea, advised to leave on your own, sentenced to up to three years in prison, or fined up to 20 million won. So you must follow these conditions!

Emma :

Alright. I understand. So, I decided to do a part-time job! (Q2) How can I apply for it?

Juana :

You can apply for a part-time job by visiting an immigration office or you can also apply by visiting the Hikorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr).

Emma :

(Q2-1) Is there anything that I should prepare?

Juana :

you should not forget bringing some required documents. This is the list of the documents that you need. Also, don’t forget to bring 20,000won for the commission!

Application Form

Standard Labor Contract

Part-time Work of Foreign Student Confirmation Form

Transcript

TOPIK Certificate

Copy of Business Registration

Copy of Identity Document (of your employer)

If you want to apply on website, you should prepare the same documents except for the Application Form and Passport. Instead, you should copy both the front and the back of your Alien Registration Card(Residence Card)!

Emma :

(Q2-2) Do I need to apply for myself? If I can’t do it, what should I do?

Juana :

Hmm, technically speaking, you should apply for yourself. However, if you are under 17, your parents, dependents, siblings, identity guarantors or housemates can do it instead.

Emma :

Alright. I'm going to apply for myself. It's not difficult! (Q3) How long can I work if I get the part-time job?

Juana :

You can work until the last day before the visa expiration.

If you have D-4 visa, it’s fine to work longer 6 months at a maximum at only one place, and for D-2, one year at a maximum at two places. Before then, you should already check your visa is available for more than 6 months or one year for each.

Emma :

It is long than that I thought! (Q3-1) If I changed my workplace, what should I do?

Juana :

If you changed your workplace, your management officer should visit the related immigration office or online service system to announce the change, within 15 days of the date of the change.

Emma :

(Q3-2) What is Work Extension, and can I get the Work Extension?

Juana :

The person who wants to work more can apply for a work extension of one year at maximum, and the number of workplaces is limited to two during your stay in Korea(for detail, follow Q3).

But, you should check the restrictions below. If your last semester’s attendance is under 70% or your GPA is under C(2.0), you can’t be passed. And those who did not enter the essential information or workplace change are also restricted.

Emma :

Oh... It's so complex. I'm not sure if I can remember this. (Q4) Do you have any reference link about this information you said?

Juana :

Sure. You can get not only a part-time job but also lots of useful information in this link. I hope this information will help you!!
